How to Install a Satisfactory Server?
Quick answer: Set up your server step by step – check requirements, install files, configure ports and start the service.
This guide shows you step by step how to set up a Satisfactory Dedicated Server – from installation and first world creation to port forwarding.
Requirements
- Operating system: Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or Linux (Ubuntu, Debian)
- Processor: 4 cores at 3.4 GHz+, strong single-core performance preferred
- RAM: At least 8 GB for 1-4 players, 16 GB recommended for larger factories or more players
- Storage: 25 GB free disk space
- Network: Broadband internet connection
Step 1: Install server files
There are two ways to get the server files:
Method A: Via Steam (easier)
- Open your Steam library
- Enable the Tools category in the filter settings
- Search for Satisfactory Dedicated Server
- Click Install and wait for the download to complete
Method B: Via SteamCMD (for headless servers)
Run SteamCMD and enter the following commands:
steamcmd +force_install_dir C:\SatisfactoryServer +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit
For Linux:
./steamcmd +force_install_dir ~/SatisfactoryServer +login anonymous +app_update 1690800 validate +quit
For the experimental version, replace public with experimental.
Step 2: Set up port forwarding
The following ports must be opened in your firewall:
- UDP 7777 – Game port (main connection for players)
- UDP 15777 – Query port (server information such as name, player count)
- UDP 15000 – Beacon port (optional, for multiple server instances)
Windows Firewall (PowerShell as Administrator)
New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Satisfactory Server" -Direction Inbound -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 7777,15777,15000 -Action Allow
Linux (UFW)
sudo ufw allow 7777/udp
sudo ufw allow 15777/udp
sudo ufw allow 15000/udp
Then forward the ports in your router to your server's local IP address.
Step 3: Start the server
Navigate to the installation folder and start the server:
- Windows: Run
FactoryServer.exe -log -unattended - Linux: Run
./FactoryServer.sh
The first start may take a little longer. Logs will appear in the console showing that the server is running.
Step 4: Set up the server in-game (Server Manager)
- Launch Satisfactory on your PC
- Click Server Manager in the main menu
- Click Add Server
- Enter your server IP and port 7777
- Confirm with Confirm
- You will receive a message that the server is not yet configured
- Assign a Server Name and confirm
- Set a Server Password and confirm
- Switch to the Create Game tab and select a starting area
- Assign a session name and click Create Game
Step 5: Join the server
- Open the Server Manager in-game
- Select your server from the list
- Enter the server password
- Click Join Game
Step 6: Adjust server configuration
The configuration files can be found in the server directory under FactoryGame/Saved/Config/. Important files are:
- GameUserSettings.ini: Player count, server name, password
- Engine.ini: Network and performance settings
- Game.ini: Game rules and advanced settings
Hardware recommendations by playstyle
| Playstyle | RAM | CPU |
|---|---|---|
| Casual 2-4 players | 8-12 GB | 4 cores at 3.4 GHz+ |
| Large factories (4 players) | 16 GB | Strong single-core performance |
| More than 4 players | 16 GB+ | High-end CPU |
Common problems
- Server running but no one can join: Check firewall and port forwarding for UDP 7777 and 15777
- Server not found in the list: Make sure UDP 15777 is open
- Connection drops: Check the bandwidth settings in Engine.ini
- Game crashes when connecting: Since Update 1.1, TCP port 8888 is additionally required
- Server not saving: Always stop the server with the
quitcommand, don't close the window
