How to Connect to Your Webspace via FTP

Quick answer: FTP connection failed? Usually wrong credentials, passive mode or firewall blocking port 21. Credentials are in Plesk under FTP access.

This guide shows you how to access your webspace via FTP – to upload, edit or delete files. The easiest way is with the free program FileZilla.

Step 1: Get your FTP credentials

  1. Log in to Plesk
  2. Click FTP Access in the left menu
  3. Here you'll see your FTP credentials:
    • Server: ftp.yourdomain.com
    • Username: Your FTP username
    • Password: Your FTP password
  4. If you don't know the password, you can reset it here

Step 2: Install FileZilla

  1. Go to filezilla-project.org
  2. Download the FileZilla Client (free)
  3. Install the program and start it

Step 3: Establish connection

  1. Enter the following details at the top of FileZilla:
    • Host: ftp.yourdomain.com
    • Username: Your FTP username
    • Password: Your FTP password
    • Port: 21
  2. Click Quickconnect
  3. After connecting, you'll see your local files on the left and the server files on the right

Step 4: Upload files

  1. Navigate to the httpdocs folder on the right – this is the public directory of your website
  2. Drag files from the left (your computer) to the right (server) via drag-and-drop
  3. The files are online immediately
