Eco Server – Installing and Managing Mods
Quick answer: Set up your server step by step – check requirements, install files, configure ports and start the service.
This guide shows you step by step how to install and manage mods on your Eco server. Eco has a growing modding community – from new structures to gameplay adjustments to quality-of-life improvements.
How Do Eco Mods Work?
Eco mods are stored as DLL files in the Mods/ folder of your server. Unlike games with Steam Workshop, Eco mods are downloaded manually and placed in this folder. The server loads them automatically on startup. Players joining your server automatically download the mods – they don't need to install anything manually.
Step 1: Find and Download Mods
The central hub for Eco mods is the official Eco website and community platforms:
- Eco Mod.io: The official modding platform for Eco
- Eco Discord: Many mods are shared and discussed on the Discord server
- GitHub: Many developers publish their mods on GitHub
Step 2: Upload Mods to the Server
- Stop your server (via the server manager or console)
- Navigate to the
Mods/folder in your server directory - Copy the downloaded DLL files into this folder
- Restart the server – the mods are loaded automatically
Step 3: Configure Mods in the Server Manager
After restarting, the mods appear in the Eco Server Manager under the Plugins tab:
- Open the Server Manager
- Go to the Plugins tab
- Enable the desired mods by checking them
- Configure the mods via their own settings (usually in the
Configs/folder) - Save the configuration via File → Save
The Most Important Eco Mods
| Mod | Function |
|---|---|
| Big Shovel | Extends the range of shovels and excavators – less clicking for large construction projects |
| Elixr Mods | Quality-of-life collection – better UI, more information |
| WorldEdit / BuildEdit | Admin tools for quick building and terraforming |
| Carry More | Increases carrying capacity – fewer trips for building materials |
| Discord Integration | Connects the server chat with a Discord channel |
Keeping Mods Up to Date
- Regularly check the sources for new versions
- Download the new DLL files
- Stop the server, replace the old DLLs in the
Mods/folder - Restart the server
- Back up your
Storage/andConfigs/folders before each update
Common Problems
Server won't start after mod installation:
- Check if the mod is compatible with your Eco version
- Temporarily remove faulty mods from the
Mods/folder for testing - Check server logs:
Logs/folder in the server directory
Players cannot join ("Mod mismatch"):
- All players must have the same mods – Eco synchronizes them when connecting
- Players need to rejoin the server when mods change
Mod doesn't appear in the Server Manager:
- Check if the DLL file is in the
Mods/folder - Completely restart the server (not just reload the world)
- Check server logs for error messages when loading the mod
Quick Checklist
- Mods downloaded from a trusted source
- DLL files copied to the
Mods/folder - Server restarted
- Mods enabled in Server Manager under Plugins
- Configuration saved (File → Save)
- Players joined and mods tested
